set up printing in a photobooth

airprint/ipp | ftp | google cloud print | USB

airprint / ipp

setup

  1. In the SLR Booth Pro app, go to the Settings screen and select Printer Settings.

  2. Printer discovery will take a few seconds. Select Printer Setting to display a list of the discovered printers.

  3. Choose the printer you want to use from the list. Wait a few seconds for the app to connect to your printer.

  4. Select the Paper Size setting to choose your paper size.

Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) is a way of sharing a printer over a network, and is supported by Windows, Mac OS, and Linux systems.

SLR Booth can find IPP printers, and can be configured to print to them automatically.

AirPrint is a technology built on top of IPP for mobile devices, and is built into many printers. SLR Booth is compatible with AirPrint and IPP printers.

There are some AirPrint printers (mainly all-in-one printer/scanner/fax office units) that won’t print a JPEG file directly. In this case, sharing the printer via a Windows / Mac OS / Linux computer will usually resolve the issue.

FTP

setup

  1. In the SLR Booth Pro app, go to the Settings screen and select PRINTER SETTINGS.

  2. Select PRINTER SETTING and choose PRINT VIA FTP PRINTER and then choose PRINT VIA FTP.

  3. Enter the FTP url as specified by your print server.

SLR Booth can communicate with print servers that allow print jobs to be submitted via FTP.

Print Servers using FTP need to be manually configured; SLR Booth can’t discover them automatically. Once they are configured, printing can happen automatically.

USB

setup usb

  1. In the SLR Booth Pro app, go to the Settings screen and select PRINTER SETTINGS.

  2. Wait a few seconds for printer discovery to finish, and select PRINTER SETTING. Select your USB connected printer.

SLR Booth offers very limited support for printing directly to a printer over USB.

Most photo printers require a custom driver that isn’t included in Android, and so won’t work using USB. There are some printers that can work without a driver, but they are not necessarily the best photo printers. We offer these steps if you want to give it a try with your printer, but don’t recommend the USB option as a first choice.

google cloud print

Setup

  1. In the SLR Booth Pro app, go to the Settings screen and select PRINTER SETTINGS.

  2. Wait a few seconds for printer discovery to finish, and select PRINTER SETTING. Select Google Cloud Print.

Google Cloud Print is the default printing solution in Android. It can be built into a printer just like AirPrint, or you can share a printer plugged into a computer that has the Chrome browser installed.

The downside of using Cloud Print is that a printing dialog is displayed for every print job, forcing users to pick a printer, paper size, copies etc. every time.

The upside is that it works over the internet, so you can print to printers that aren’t on the same network as your tablet.
